The LLL Programme 2007-2013

In March 2004, the Commission adopted a Communication entitled "The new generation of Community Education and Training Programmes after 2006" which indicated the Commission's intention to propose an integrated lifelong learning programme.
In July 2004, a Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council established this new integrated programme to replace the four existing sectoral programmes, Comenius, Erasmus, Leonardo de Vinci and Grundtvig. The action programme was established in November 2006 by a Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council:  "The general objective of the Lifelong Learning Programme is to contribute through lifelong learning to the development of the Community as an advanced knowledge-based society, with sustainable economic development, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion, while ensuring good protection of the environment for future generations. In particular, it aims to foster interchange, cooperation and mobility between education and training systems within the Community so that they become a world quality reference". The Lifelong Learning programme 2007-2013 was launched in December 2006 by the publication of the first call of proposals.
